Applying for a place (age 2)

You can apply for funded Early Learning and Childcare the term after your child has turned 2 and you are in receipt of certain benefits. Please refer to the Funded early learning and childcare page for further information.

To apply please complete the application form and return with supporting documentation to your first choice of nursery.

Applying for a place (age 3-5)

Children become eligible for a free place from the term after their 3rd birthday. This entitlement continues until the child is of the age to start school.

All children have an entitlement of 600 hours per year in a local authority nursery.

This entitlement means an early learning and childcare place of up to 5 sessions of 3 hrs and 10 minutes per week for 38 weeks in a local authority nursery,  partnership provider or with a childminder.

All nurseries provide flexibility around how these hours are offered. This means your child's place can be 5 morning sessions, 5 afternoon sessions or 5 sessions over the week.

You should note, there are no catchment areas for nursery places. This does mean, dependant on availability, you may not get your first choice. Every effort will be made to accommodate requests.

To apply for all nursery places, please complete the application form and return to your first choice of nursery.

You will also be required to complete a session choice form to indicate which sessions you would like. This is available from your nursery and should be completed as quickly as possible.
